The journey home becomes a walk through time

The St. Benilde Hall. The resolute, saucer-shaped centerpiece of La Salle Green Hills, was a structure that every LSGH student imagined would one day take to the skies. Nearly 6 decades since its inauguration, its very walls are memoirs to historical moments, such as the 1986 EDSA Revolution. In fact, the 1986 Presidential Elections’ Namfrel Quick-Count tally board is proudly displayed in the building’s gymnasium as a historical artifact. Given St. Benilde Hall’s history and otherworldly sci-fi vibe, it was ideal that the iconic landmark bridge all 57 LSGH Alumni batches across one homecoming event that celebrates the 4 best years of their lives.

LSGH High School Batch ’91, referring to themselves as Labelled Green ’91, is this year’s jubilarian host for the 2016 LSGH Alumni Homecoming; leading in with their celebratory event concept: Labelled Green – A Walk Through Time. This ambitious time-travelling concept seeks to pay homage to high school years from the 60s up to our present day; a time span that’s even longer than the years between the original Doctor Who and the film Interstellar. The Alumni Homecoming is set for Saturday, 6th February, 4:00 PM, at the LSGH Upper Field where the St. Benilde Hall performs its premiere role as “Time machine” for an estimated 2000 LSGH Alumni. That’s a lot more people than a single DeLorean can take in one trip.

The event will be helmed by time travelling celebrities who first made it big during Labelled Green ‘91’s teenage years. Among these are Labelled Green ‘91’s very own Jeffery “Epy” Quizon (who won’t take this night sitting down), and RJ “Joey” Ledesma (whose preference for beverages have matured beyond orange sodas). Joining them is the one lady who made us save an empty bar stool every Saturday night… the stunning Ina Raymundo. Marty Mcfly will have nothing on this trio of time-trippers as they lead the walk through time from one celebrity performance to another. The journey begins with the groovy girls of Rouge singing for the outa’ sight 60s, then it’s muscle cars, highway stars and stayin’ alive with retro tunes by Route 70. Revving it up to the radical 80s are madonnas Sheree and Sheng Belmonte, with tracks skipping into the 90’s with famed band True Faith. And finally, the sounds of the new millennium come streaming in courtesy of Pinoy rock legend Rico Blanco.

Of course, no LSGH Alumni Homecoming simply revolves around an awesome show. Kicking up the Labeled Green – A Walk Through Time experience will be tons of great eats, flowing drinks, faces you probably haven’t seen in over 20 years, and a grand raffle draw where one lucky winner drives into the future in a brand new Chevrolet Trailblazer. Being a non-stock, non-profit association, the endeavors of Labelled Green ’91 will benefit the One La Salle scholarship fund and LSGH Sports Program Development Office.

Contributing to the night’s timelessness are its generous sponsors who made this year’s homecoming a journey to remember. Labelled Green ‘91 and the LSGH Alumni Association would like to thank co-presentors Mr AJ Violago, Chevrolet Baliuag, Isabela & Tarlac, and ETC, in partnership with San Miguel Beer, Globe, Johnnie Walker, Hexacam, AdStrat World, Business Mirror, and Inquirer.net

Definitely not last on the list among the event’s prime movers, the 2016 LSGH Alumni Homecoming owes its achievements to the efforts of the Jubilarian batch Labelled Green ’91 and the LSGH Alumni Association. Leading the jubilarians are Aljun Garcia (Labelled Green ’91 Batch President), Jose Recio III (Homecoming Committee Chairman), and the various class representatives from sections A to K that rounded up their respected homerooms. Supporting these men are the various talents across the batch, now experts in the fields of marketing, multimedia, financial planning, corporate communications, and events management… to name a few.

Once the various alumni of LSGH begin walking onto familiar grounds to join the homecoming, with some possibly shocked by the school’s changes over the decades, you can be sure that every one of them would look towards their beloved St. Benilde Hall… and silently urge it to soar into the heavens.
