African art at Galerie Astra

AT GALERIE Astra, 34 pieces of African art is on view until Feb. 16. Among the pieces are Dan Masks used in religious ceremonies, Nomoli Stone Sculptures, Sande Society’s Helmet Masks known for their high artistic and material value. These are from the collection of a European diplomat stationed in the ’80s in West Africa.

Feng shui artist

FENG shui artist Lizanne Uychaco

Lizanne Uychaco’s paintings are exhibited in “Auspicious Art” at Heritage Art Asian Gallery.

Uychaco is a feng shui artist known for painting the art of good fortune. Her paintings are believed to elicit harmony and bring about happiness, prosperity, longevity, wealth and success. Her works has the image of an ancient coin she has worn since she was 5.

Garcellano at UP Vargas

Lyra Garcellano’s solo exhibition “Twofold: Dear Artist | Double Consciousness” runs until March 15 at the UP Vargas Museum. It is presented by Finale Art File.

In “Twofold,” Garcellano explores the relationships and intersections of cultural institutions, artistic production, and the art market. Both foreground the intricacies of valuation by examining the different networks, either public or private, with which an artist interacts.

Also running in UP Vargas Museum is “Daloy,” a group exhibit of 50 artists who made artworks with water as subject.

The show is part of Project Bakawan, an art festival at UP Diliman.

There will be lectures and art workshops on Feb. 25, and a concert on Feb. 26.

“Daloy” runs until Feb. 27.

Group exhibit at San Beda

“Dark to Light” group exhibit by San Beda artists Jun Alday, Al Manrique and Wilfrido Buhay is on view until Feb. 29 at Pamanang Bedista Heritage Center in San Beda Manila campus.

The exhibit is co-presented by San Beda College Alumni Association, San Beda College Alumni Foundation, Grade School Class of 1962, and High School Class 1966 (Golden Jubilarians).

‘Waterfalls’ photo exhibit at UE

“Philippine Waterfalls” photo exhibit runs until Feb. 29 at The University of the East Dalupan lobby.

 ‘Ying Chun Zhan’ at Galerie Anna

Galerie Anna presents “Ying Chun Zhan” (Spring Exhibition) with participating artists Cesar Cheng, NeiNei Hui Chun and LitaGelano. The works are executed in the classical Chinese manner using calligraphy, ink, traditional Chinese brushes on unsized Xuen (rice) paper.

The travelling group exhibition, “Transnational Narrations: Paperworks,” runs Feb. 24-April 17 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Bulwagang Juan Luna (Main Gallery) and Pasilyo Guillermo Tolentino (3/F, Hallway Gallery).

Tam Austria visits Dubai

TOP ARTIST Tam Austria recently traveled to Dubai where he met with Philippine embassy officials and presented the book, “Zeal for Art,” his artistic biography written by top critic Alice Guillermo, and with his essay, “My Inspirer.” The book was received by Giovannie Palec, Philippine consul general in Dubai. With Austria was Mary Divine Austria.

Rhea and Herzon de la Rosa in joint exhibit

Siblings Rhea and Herzon de la Rosa are having their fourth exhibit, “Art for Heart Month,” on view until Feb. 23 at Art Gallery Philippines. On show are genre works for which the siblings are known for—landscape, flora and other figurative renditions.

‘Botong’ at Adamson

“Botong Francisco: A Nation Imagined,” a traveling exhibition curated by Ayala Museum, is running at the Adamson University (AdU) Art Gallery until Feb. 22.

The exhibit features reproductions of paintings made by National Artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco, a native of Angono, Rizal.

Accompanying the exhibition is a film chronicling Botong’s vision and artistry produced by the Ayala Foundation and directed by award-winning filmmaker Peque Gallaga.

During the opening ceremonies, Adamson president Fr. Marcelo Manimtim, CM, gave high praise to the artist. Having spent many years living in Angono himself, Fr. Manimtim viewed Botong as someone who was more closely attuned to the land of his birth and called him the “authentic interpreter of life in Angono.”

Joining Fr. Manimtim were Fr. Gregorio Bañaga Jr., CM, AdU’s immediate past president; professor Alberto Tañeda, chair of the visual arts committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts; and Ditas Samson of the Ayala Museum. Guests included José Paulo Campos, president of Emilio Aguinaldo College, and Fr. Rolando Tuazon, CM, parish priest of the Sanctuario de San Vicente de Paul.

The Fernando B. Sena Buenas Artes Art Facility present “Art for the Heart” group painting exhibit, Feb. 23-March 5.
