JUST IN: Resorts World Manila to stage ‘Annie’, auditions announced

Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, the co-artistic director of Resorts World Manila’s Full House Theater Company, has announced on her Facebook page that Full House is mounting the blockbuster musical “Annie” in September 2016 at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater, and that open auditions will be held for the adult cast this March 14-15.

Her full announcement reads:

“Full House Theater Company in cooperation with Resorts World Manila and MTI New York, is proud to announce that the musical ANNIE will be staged at the Newport Performing Arts theater ( NPAT ) Theater September 2016.

“With that said, we are calling for open auditions for the ADULT cast on Monday March 14 and Tuesday March 15. Auditions and registration will be held at the 3rd floor rehearsal hall of the NPAT Theater.

“Registration is at 12:30. Audition proper will begin at 1:30 PM until 5:00 PM. It will be on a first come basis.
Male and Female ages 25 to 50 are welcome to audition. Must be able to sing and dance. With a good command of the English language.

” Please prepare any show tune. A pianist will be be provided. You may use minus ones but live accompaniment is preferred.

“THE AUDITIONS FOR THE ORPHANS AND ANNIE WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE.”

“Annie” will be Full House Theater Company’s follow-up to its blockbuster production of “Bituing Walang Ningning, The Musical” last year, starring Mark Bautista, Cris Villonco and newcomer Monica Cuenco; and a two-night “South Pacific in Concert” last September, headlined by Joanna Ampil, Jon Meer Vera Perez, Ima Castro and Bautista.

The Broadway musical “Annie”, with music by Charles Strouse, book by Thomas Meehan and lyrics by Martin Charnin, opened in 1977 and won that year’s Tony award for Best Musical. It has had numerous revivals and touring productions across the globe, and has been produced for film and TV. In the Philippines, the 1980 Repertory Philippines production starred the then 10-year-old Lea Salonga.
