Meet Kar Victoriano, a professional motion graphic designer who also does watercolor.

He is popular for his social media hashtag OOTDraw (#OOTDraw), a series of watercolors of local celebrities and personalities wearing their outfits of the day.

His artwork is a breath of fresh, youthful air.

What’s the concept and inspiration of #OOTDraw?

#OOTDraw is #OOTD + drawing, a series I started on Instagram. It was inspired by Lookbook artist Nancy Zhang, but with my own style and calligraphy, plus the idea of sketching people on the spot when I went to Hong Kong.

How do you choose whom to draw? What feedback have you gotten so far?

I draw subjects that interest and inspire me, like clothes and how people dress themselves up. I love drawing small details like patterns and florals.

I find it amazing when people tag me in their illustration posts saying that I inspire them to draw. With drawings, I get to connect with other artists, gain friends and do collaborations.

Do you come from a digital or traditional art background?

Both. I’ve been drawing since I was a kid. I started doing watercolor in December 2014. My work requires digital design and illustration rather than traditional art, though.

Do you use other programs or traditional media?

I’ve tried acrylic painting but I don’t think it’s for me. Plus, I love watercolor’s effect on paper. I experiment more with paper, brushes and other watercolor brands.

They say true artists use only the best art materials for their work. Where do you get yours?

Whenever I go out of the country, I hoard art supplies, especially brushes and mixing palettes, since the choices in the Philippines are quite limited.

Tell us something about you that you want the world to know.

Balancing a full-time job with making art is not impossible. I always try to squeeze in a painting session whenever possible. Always bring travel pads, brushes and paints because you’ll never know when inspiration will strike!
