Philippine coconut showcased in Japan food fair

THE Philippines is the world’s second largest producer of coconuts. Last week, the Philippine coconut was showcased in the Food Philippines pavilion at Foodex Japan, the largest food and beverage trade show in Asia, held in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan.

Coconut is a top dollar earner in the agricultural export industry. Its products include coconut oil, coco water, organic coconut sugar and coconut flour, among others.

Virgin coconut oil (VCO) and pure coco Medium Chain Triglycerides cater to the growing demand for health food in the Japanese market.

VCO reportedly promotes weight loss, reduces risk of heart disease, stabilizes cholesterol level and strengthens the body’s immunity through its lauric acid component.

It also aids in effective skin and hair care. It prevents premature aging as it eliminates harmful toxins in the body, protects against skin damage due to excessive sun exposure, makes skin more elastic and smooth, relieves muscle pain when used as a massage oil, prevents hair loss, controls dandruff and makes hair shinier.

Coco water is seen as a healthy alternative to sugar-loaded sodas and energy drinks. It prevents indigestion, boosts hydration, reduces blood pressure and dissolves urinary stones.

The Philippine participation in Foodex Japan was spearheaded by the Center for International Expositions and Missions, the export promotions arm of the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry.
