Our electric body | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

ON March 7, 1999 I wrote in this column about the case of Maria Fe Aurelia Frias, then working in her family hauling business in Pandacan, Manila.

I called her the “Electric Woman” because whenever she was under stress or pressure, anybody who touched her, no matter how lightly, would feel a painful electric shock. She herself felt electricity when touching a door knob or the metal handle of a filing cabinet.

“There were many times,” she recalled, “when people would see sparks coming out of my hands when touched.”

I told her I had experienced the same thing at least twice, in the late ’70s and early ’80s. The first time it happened was in Zürich, Switzerland, in 1979. I lightly touched the shoulder of a German friend, Dr. Andreas Freund, while having breakfast, and he jerked away from me, shouting, “Ouch! That hurt!”

He said he felt a strong surge of electricity from my hand. I didn’t believe him and tried to touch him again, but he objected and tried to push my hand away. I said I just wanted to see if it would happen again. I told him that must be static electricity.

Dr. Freund, who is an atomic energy scientist, said it definitely was not static energy, because he knew how static electricity felt. This was much stronger, he said.

The second time this strange electrical shock happened to me was when American writer, former ballet dancer and commercial model Andrea Cagan hugged and kissed me while in her hotel room in August 1983. There were electric sparks that came from our lips, shocking both of us.

These incidents reminded me of Ben, a man I met in the mid-’70s. He related to me that whenever he tried to start his car, it wouldn’t start. But if somebody else did it, the engine would start without a problem.

One time he bought a blank audio cassette tape from a store in Raon, Sta. Cruz, Manila. When he tried to play it on his tape recorder (there were no digital machines then), the voice of a popular and bombastic radio political commentator came out. He thought the store sold him a used tape.

Sealed

He went back to the store in anger to return the tape. The owner said the cassette tape he had sold to Ben was sealed and had not been opened. He offered to replace it with a new one which was obviously sealed and handed it to Ben.

When Ben tore the plastic cover and played the tape right inside the store, the voice of the same radio commentator could again be heard! The owner of the store could only scratch his head in disbelief. Ben decided not to have the tape replaced.

As I said in that 1999 column, “Until now, science still cannot explain the cause of such unusual electric discharge from people.” But the phenomenon existed and could not be denied.

In the case of Frias, the strong electrical sparks appeared only when she was under pressure, or in a stressful situation. I suggested to her to practice some stress control techniques, like meditation, visualization and brain programming, which can lower her anxiety levels.

Once she has mastered these techniques, her problem could be solved. But I never heard from her again.

Ben, on the other hand, attended meditation and creativity classes and learned to channel his strong electromagnetic energy to healing. He then began to practice healing for several years until the end of martial law. I have since lost contact with him.

Because of my curiosity to find some explanation for the phenomenon of strong electromagnetic energy emitted by the human body, I began asking researchers abroad for some references, but could find no one who had investigated it.

Then, sometime in the mid-’90s, my Canadian friend and fellow psychic researcher, Dr. Lee Pulos, a well-known clinical psychologist and hypnotherapist from Vancouver, lent me a book entitled “The Electric Shock Book,” written by astro-physicist and Oxford lecturer Dr. Michael Shallis, which dealt with that topic.

I read another book, “The Body Electric: A Personal Journey into the Mysteries of Parapsychology and Kirlian Photography,” by Thelma Moss, Ph.D.

Somehow, these books threw some light on the mystery of people who emitted such strong electricity from their bodies.

Next week, I shall discuss relevant information I gathered from these two rare books.
