Jeffrey Ching’s ‘A Chamber Requiem’ to have world premiere at CCP

THE Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) will present the world premiere of German-based Filipino composer Jeffrey Ching’s “A Chamber Requiem,” on April 9, 7:30 p.m.

The musical composition is Ching’s intensely personal completion of the “Requiem Mass” left unfinished by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1791.

Soloists are soprano Andión Fernández and German bass-baritone Lars Grünwoldt, accompanied by six virtuosi of the Modern Art Ensemble from Berlin. The same performers will repeat the work in Berlin at its European premiere a week later on April 17.

The composer and performers wish to acknowledge their debt to Renato Lucas and Dino Decena for the loan of extra string instruments that have had to be completely re-strung and retuned in unconventional ways to reproduce the unequal intervals of the Qing dynasty scale.

Concert is supported by Makati Diamond Residences and the German Embassy Manila.

Tickets cost P1,000/P800 and are available at the CCP Box Office (8323704 or 8323706). Visit www.culturalcenter.gov.ph or call TicketWorld at 8919999.
