The future of Philippine fashion

DAN Duran, a 2011 Fashion Design graduate from the School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA), believes he can do something special in the industry. For him, fashion is an applied art that can impact many lives.

At present, he runs a small made-to-order shop in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. Later on he wants to create his own ready-to-wear line.

For these pieces, Dan was inspired by the mystery of Saint Germain, which he translated through new ways of draping and creative pattern cutting.

He also cross-referenced techniques by French designer Madeleine Vionnet, and included personal art prints that he screen-printed and applied on the garments.

These pieces are part of a collection that he started just for practice in 2013 and then finished in 2015. They were all made for personal use, but Dan eventually decided to release them through his website, www.dandvran.com, after his friend Ber Garcia took photographs of the pieces.

Representing his school in “Face-Off” was a humbling yet gratifying experience for Dan. Hard work and kindness, he says, are his tools for success not only in fashion, but in life.
