For years, cosmetic companies have been closely studying the survival mechanisms of some plants in the harshest environmental conditions to adapt them into breakthrough skincare products.

The Swiss luxury skincare brand La Prairie believes it has succeeded in mimicking the resilience of two Swiss alpine plants and one algae to create an antiaging complex that targets the first signs of lines and wrinkles.

La Prairie’s Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Collection was first launched in early 2014, and this month the firm rolls out new additions to the line, intended for younger women who are just beginning to feel and see the need for a skin antiaging solution.

The Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Transforming Cream SPF 30 and Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Serum are two new products designed for a younger market, women in their 20s to early 30s, who may not even have visible signs of skin aging yet, said Twinkle Ochanine, education manager for La Prairie at

Rustan’s.

The formulations are lightweight and easily absorbed, which suit women living in the tropics who shun thick and heavy goop touching their skin.

The first step to this regimen is the serum, which contains the purified stem cell extract of a plant called winter daphne. It boosts microcirculation and strengthens the skin’s protective barrier.

And as an answer to busy women’s demand for multitasking products, there’s now the Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Transforming Cream SPF 30, essentially a tinted moisturizer and UV protection in one bottle, which can be layered with the Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal serum.

Ochanine said the Transforming Cream has color-correcting pigments that even out skintone and refine pores. This ultra-light oil-free formula has buildable coverage and comes with a brush applicator.

La Prairie’s Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Complex is composed of purple saxifrage, Soldanella alpina and Swiss snow algae, three plants that thrive in the harshest ice-covered mountains of Switzerland. The Swiss company’s scientists have studied the cellular makeup of these survivalist plants to transfer their unique mechanism to the skin.

La Prairie is exclusively available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.
