“Louise,” a portmanteau of Randy Ortiz’s second name (Luis) and his mother’s (Lourdes), drew the loudest applause at the finale of the Manila Fashion Festival (MFF) held recently at Edsa Shangri-La.
Ortiz joined fellow designers Banggo Niu, Jaz Cerezo, Arleen Sipat-Sutton of Azucar and Pablo Cabahug, along with Coca-Cola’s fashion line for a night of edgy feminine fashion.
Ortiz said his collection is for women who want unique yet wearable pieces for not-so-formal functions. Cabahug’s collection “Alter Ego” targeted the “daring, tough and sexy,” while Niu’s “Luxotica” celebrated a woman’s femininity, beauty and confidence.
Cerezo’s fluid pieces were an unmistakable ode to the female form while Azucar’s delicate confections were marvels of intricate motifs and architecture, a perfect foil for Coca-Cola’s threads.
MFF organizer Ronnie Cruz said the fourth season featured “new and innovative” styles from the country’s best designers. The show’s beneficiary was Better Future Foundation, a nonprofit conducting research to cure infectious children’s diseases.
