The Cultural Center of the Philippines presents the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in a send-off concert on June 10 at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) at 7:30pm.
The PPO is bound for the United States where it will play at the Carnegie Hall in New York on June 18.
The PPO performance in New York marks the first time a Filipino orchestra will perform in the US and in the prestigious Carnegie Hall as well.
For the send-off concert, the PPO will play some of the pieces in its Carnegie concert. These are Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture, op.96,” Jean Sibelius’ “Violin Concerto in D minor, op.47,” and works by Filipino composers.
Filipino violinist Diomedes Saraza, Jr., who is a guest soloist in the send-off concert, will also perform in the PPO’s concert at Carnegie Hall. Likewise, internationally renowned pianist Cecile Licad will perform in the Carnegie concert.
