Archbishop Sergio L. Utleg  of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao will be chief celebrant in this year’s fiesta Mass for Our Lady of Piat at the Santo  Domingo Church in Quezon City on July 9, 9 a.m.

Joining him will be Fr. Jesus Prol, OP, vicar provincial of the Holy Rosary Province of the Spanish Dominicans, Fr. Stephen Simangan, and Fr. Roland Aquino, SVD.

The Mass will be held at the Santo Domingo Church because the devotion to the Piat was introduced by the Order of Preachers (OP), or Dominicans, in Cagayan Valley.

The devotion to the miraculous Our Lady of Piat, patroness of Cagayan Valley, began in 1604  when the Dominican missionaries brought the life-size image of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary  from Macau to the town of Lallo, then the seat of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia in Cagayan Valley.

By virtue of the decree by Saint John Paul II, her shrine was elevated into a Basilica Minore on March 10, 1998.
The Order of Preachers  (OP) is celebrating its 800th anniversary. It is present in 100 countries.

Dominicans, as OP members are better known, are the foremost propagators of the rosary.
