At Tod’s, saddle stitching, tassels and fringe take center stage

“A nod to the craftsmen” was how Alessandra Facchinetti described her swan song at Tod’s, at the Fall-Winter 2016 collections in Milan, two months before the Italian brand announced its creative director’s departure after three years at the helm.

Indeed, tartan-effect saddle stitching, tassels and fringes characterize the Tod’s collection, from apparel to handbags and footwear. The references point to the 1970s, with fur-trimmed biker and bomber jackets, accessories and its signature Gommino shoes dripping with charms or foxtail fur.

Last season’s Double T bag has been reinterpreted with tassels, and a motley of skins and finishes. A nod to the hippie ’70s, some of the new models come in a patchwork of multicolor leathers. Others are rendered with tartan check motifs.

Wave bag

Even the Wave bag, popular for a couple of seasons now, follows the same tartan-and-tassels theme, so the once unadorned tote has saddle stitching and patchwork leather details.

This season, the brand has a shopper model that’s expected to be a hit among customers who simply want a lightweight, functional style that literally packs plenty, with its large, roomy design. It comes in gray and brown leathers.

The well-loved Gommino moccasin receives the same saddle-stitch detailing, and is distinctly kickier than usual with its new tassels and fringes. The new boots and sneakers feature D-ring hooks with colorful laces to boot. The sleek Double T loafers, in gradient-tone leathers, are also a standout.

But if you simply want to update your existing Wave or Double T bags, Tod’s offers fun little accessories to do the job: long tassels and foxtail furs to hook onto your purses.

Tod’s is exclusively available from Stores Specialists Inc. The Fall-Winter 2016 collection will be available beginning September at the Greenbelt 4 and Rustan’s Shangri-La Plaza boutiques.
