The Cultural Center of the Philippines presents Winds and Jazz: The CCP International Band Festival from July 26 to 31, 2016 at the CCP Main and Little Theaters, Silangan Hall and Harbour Square.
Winds and Jazz is an international music festival that combines the vibrant sounds and harmonies of the symphonic band and the sophisticated rhythms of jazz in a musical treat appealing to a variety of listeners and music enthusiasts.
The festival highlights various symphonic bands from around the country and abroad. It also features various styles of the jazz genre, including Asian ethnic fusion, as performed by local and international jazz figures and groups.
Aside from main evening concerts, pocket concerts and sunset concerts, the festival also has collaborative components that include lobby pre-shows, trade shows, band clinics, and instrument repair sessions.
Highlights of the festival include a grand entrance and opening sunset concert on July 26 at 4pm at the Harbour Square featuring some of the participating bands, as well as masterclasses, workshops and lecture-demonstrations conducted by foreign artists from July 27-30. A closing sunset concert with the bands at 5pm followed by an evening closing concert at 7pm by foreign and military bands go onstage on July 31.
The event features local groups and artists; Adam’s Eve, Antipolo Municipal Band (Antipolo), Baihana, Banda Dos Taytay (Rizal), Banda San Jose (Las Piñas City), Sta. Cecilia Band ’89 (Cavite), Calamba City Brass Band (Laguna), Majestic Band (Muntinlupa), Malabon Community Band (Malabon), Magdalene Band 17 (Cavite), Carmona Community Band (Cavite), Manila Tuba-Euphonium Quartet, Oboe Trio, Oboe & Celli Quartet, Palo Enchanting Brass Band (Leyte), Philbanda Wind Orchestra, PPO Woodwind Quintet, Prestige Clarinet Ensemble, PYSB Jazz Band, Ryan Villamor Trio, San Juan Nepomuceno Band (Pasay City).
They will be joined by school bands including the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School Symphonic Band (Alabang), UP Symphonic Band, Adamson University Band, Adamson Acoustic Band, and UST Wind Orchestra. Other participating groups include the Armed Forces Bands from the Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Presidential Security Group.
Performing artists are Fernando Mendoza Jr. Trio, Henry Katindig Contemporary Jazz Quartet, Johnny Alegre, Lowcal, Majam, Ray Infante, Rick Countryman, Romy Posadas, Ryan Villamor Trio, Sandra Viray, Sitti Navarro, Sound Spectrum, Poppin’ Jazz, The Brass Munkeys, and Triple Fret, among other performers.
Foreign artists participating in the festival include Aubarra Clarinet Duo (American), Felix Peikli (Norwegian jazz clarinet/buffet crampon artist), Jin Ta (Singaporean flautist), Brando Tan Heng Pong (multi-talented performer), Sean Tan Eng Huat (wind instrument specialist: retailer, repairer and performer), Darren Rahn (Canadian artist, producer and mixing engineer), Royal Hartigan and the Blood Drum Spirit (American performing artist), Edsel Gomez Trio (Latin jazz pianist, Puerto Rico), and Brando Tan (band conductor, Singapore).
Tickets are Php300, Php200, and Festival Passes at Php600. A 20 percent discount is available for Senior Citizens and PWDs, and 50% for Students.
