Barrio Fiesta revisited–in Sta. Rosa

We thought we’d give credit to restaurants that have survived very stiff competition, remained popular and continued to serve quality food and efficient service.

We visited one of these oldies but goodies at its latest branch.

Barrio Fiesta

UG/F, Arcadia Building, Sta Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Greenfield City, Santa Rosa, Laguna

For decades the chain has provided Filipino food at its best. A lot of us grew up with its unequalled kare-kare.

Barrio Fiesta has since expanded. Today the chain continues to serve originals. This is commendable because often  spin-offs fail in the areas of taste and service.

Dining area—Nothing elaborate; atmosphere is homey. Tables and chairs are arranged close to each other. A counter at one end has chairs for waiting guests. The place gets full so come early.

Service—It is recommended you place your orders before getting a table. The voluminous menu folder is readily available.

Staff—Attendants led by a lady supervisor welcome customers.

Suggested orders—Of course, kare-kare is on top of the list. But you may start with the refreshing native salad and sisig. With its slightly spicy flavor, the sisig will whet one’s appetite. With kare-kare (beef and tripe cooked perfectly tender in peanut sauce with vegetables and served with sauteed bagoong), perhaps you may try lighter accompanying dishes such as a bangus daing and lumpiang ubod. Punctuate the meal with sweet saba bananas and you partake of a perfect Filipino meal!

Government and service charges are added to the bill.

Senior cards are honored.
