Relic of St. Martha, patron saint of cooks and helpers, on display

Radio Veritas (RV) is inviting devotees of Saint Martha to visit her image and first-class relic until July 29 at the Veritas Chapel in Veritas Tower, 162 West Ave. and Edsa, Quezon City (tel. 9257932 to 39, loc. 129).

As described in the Gospels of Luke and John, Martha lived in the village of Bethany near Jerusalem with her siblings Mary and Lazarus, whom Christ would later raise from the dead.

Always pictured in the New Testament as offering hospitality to Christ, Martha was gently rebuked by him when she complained that Mary was not helping her with the house chores and just sat and listened to him. Jesus reminded Martha that the only thing that was truly important was listening to Him, and that was what Mary was doing.

Saint Martha’s feast is on July 29, during which a Mass will be said in her honor at the RV Chapel at 12 noon.

Martha is patron saint of cooks and servants.

Caritas Manila scholars

Graduate beneficiaries of Caritas Manila’s Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP) met recently to reaffirm their commitment to the ideals of the scholarship program. Theme of the assembly was “Moving our Nation through Faith, Excellence and Service.” Fr. Benito Tuazon, parish priest of St. Anthony of Padua Parish and a YSLEP graduate, celebrated the Mass.

YSLEP is a flagship program of Caritas Manila (CM). To date, it has produced over 10,000 graduates. Alumni help out by tithing or donating to CM for the education of new scholars.
