It’s big, it’s proud, and it’s unapologetically cocky.
Breitling, the Swiss luxury watch, just released a 50-mm diameter beast of a timepiece called Avenger Hurricane. It’s big on style and personality, but is undoubtedly one of the lightest aviation watches to date—3.3 times lighter than titanium and 5.8 times lighter than steel.
The case material, an ultralight, high-technology polymer called Breitlight, a Breitling exclusive, not only boasts of strength and rigidity, but is also practically impervious to scratches and corrosion, and is hypoallergenic and antimagnetic, as well.
Faithful to the brand’s military aviation-inspired tradition, the Breitling Avenger Hurricane comes with a 24-hour time display; has an all-black color scheme accented with yellows and big hour numerals; and a special strap made of tough textile fiber exterior with a yellow rubber core.

“In the beginning, Breitling was bought by pilots and men who appreciated the technical features of pilot watches, but in recent years, the brand came out with traditional and conventional vintage watches which catered to almost everybody,” said Mitch del Rosario, brand manager of Lucerne, distributor of Breitling in the Philippines.
The Avenger Hurricane has a unidirectional rotating bezel with rider tabs, an in-house automatic chronograph movement and basic chronograph functionality backed by a 70-hour power reserve. It only needs winding every three days. It is also water-resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet).
“The market for Breitling watches is strong in the Philippines. The Avenger collection is the strongest in the entire range of Breitling watches,” Del Rosario said.
Another Avenger launched was the Breitling Avenger Bandit. Inspired by the spirit of naval aviation, it has a gray 45-mm diameter face encased in light and sturdy titanium. It has a military strap and a high-performance mechanical movement. The Avenger Bandit has a gray-brushed titanium case and a glare-proof sapphire case, and is waterproof up to 300 meters or 1,000 feet.
The case is also stain-brushed, avoiding light reflections. It has military-look stencil hour numerals, with a luminescent coating over the gray-toned dial. There are three tone-on-tone subdials—for chronograph hours (6 o’clock), minutes (12 o’clock), and seconds (9 o’clock).
“Breitling will be coming out with more innovative and interesting watches to maintain its strong presence and market share in the watch industry,” Del Rosario said.
