Kelly Clarkson Comes to Ke$ha’s Side, Describes Dr. Luke as ‘Not a Good Person’

Kelly Clarkson speaks up about her experience working with Sony music producer Lukasz Gottwald, also known as “Dr. Luke,” who is under a lot of scrutiny given the injunction case filed by Kesha due to verbal and sexual abuse.

The American Idol told an Australian radio station that he is “not a good person” and continued to describe the unpleasant nature of working with the dubious producer. The Huffington Post relates these statements from Kelly’s interview: “We’ve clashed, but I can’t really say anything other than that,” she said, before going on to say that Kesha’s fans want to know why Clarkson won’t stick up for her. “I wasn’t there [with Kesha]. I don’t know what happened specifically in their situation. Obviously I wasn’t in the room. But I can remark on his character.”

She continued, “Unfortunately, when you have that poor of (sic) character, like, so many artists don’t like you and don’t like working with you—you know that’s not normal. I get along with everybody I work with. He’s just not a good guy for me.”

It is of note that Kelly resonates the same opinions about Dr. Luke as other musicians like Amy Millan of Stars and Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos have shared. Her statements also come just right in time for the expiration of her contract with Sony, the one she got upon winning American Idol in 2002. In between her hits like “Since U Been Gone” and “My Life Would Suck Without You,” Kelly admits that Sony blackmailed her into working with Dr. Luke, “It was a really hard time for me. And I tried to make the best of the situation,” she continued.

Though Kelly’s experiences aren’t as bad as Kesha’s, with no claims from the “I Do Not Hookup” singer about sexual abuse, Kelly is just one of the many more supporters of Kesha and reveals more and more the darker side of the music industry.
