Contouring, the time-consuming activity where one balances light and dark pigments to achieve “naturally sculpted” cheeks and hide puffy eye bags, could soon be over.

Clarins, the premier French skincare brand, has released its Shaping Facial Lift range that allows women to achieve more angular cheeks and younger-looking eyes—in three steps that do away with bronzers and makeup brushes.

Instead, there is the bestselling Shaping Facial Lift Total V Contouring Serum that refines the face, followed by the new Enhancing Eye Lift Serum that understands the unique eye morphology of Asian women.

Clarins’ Parisian skin spa has long been getting feedback from Japanese women, particularly those who want a “beautiful, refined, smaller face and a perfect ‘V’ shape contour.”

The beauty brand’s response: the contouring serum has guarana that helps slim the face and reduce double chin; zerumbet ginger with depuffing properties; and kaki that contributes to a sharper facial line.

The eye lift serum, meanwhile, has additional lady’s mantle and horse chestnut extracts that minimize eyelid puffiness, and lighten dark circles. A dash of panthenol also fortifies eyelashes.

Devoted application of these products results in a thinner looking face and bigger, bolder-looking eyes.

Soothing mask

Clarins education manager Pamela Aguirre could barely hide her excitement when Rustan’s Makati unveiled the third product called V-Facial Intensive Wrap. The soothing mask is gently applied to facial skin when the face is puffy in the morning due to stress, heat or hormonal changes.

“It takes effect in just 10 minutes,” she said.

Aguirre noted that continuing studies on skincare affirm that the unholy triumvirate of sodium, sugar and fat wreaks havoc on skin. No amount of SPF can prevent blotchy and old-looking skin as long as these antagonists are ever-present in the diet.

Clarins’ combination of extracts from beautyberry, zerumbet ginger and escin from horse chestnut help to drain excess water from the face and reduce puffiness.

“Feelings of heaviness are reduced. Facial contours are refined and the face visibly regains an ideal ‘V’ contour,” Aguirre said.

While skincare products cannot aggressively reshape bone structure, Aguirre said draining excess water from the face may provide a visible shrinking of the cheek area and give an appearance of a smaller face.

The intensive wrap also has white clay that absorbs impurities from the surface and mattifies the complexion.

Aguirre said women wishing for a still more intensive draining treatment can check out Clarins’ beauty clinic in Rustan’s Makati where trained therapists can provide a relaxing, effective auto-lifting method that provides an even more dramatic result.
