“The Queen of Katwe.” The biographical drama based on the book about a female chess master by Tim Crothers; “The Girl on the Train,” based on British author Paula Hawkins’ best-selling thriller; “A Monster Calls,” based on Patrick Ness’ fantasy novel; “Inferno,” based on Dan Brown’s “Da Vinci Code” series with Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon; “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling book set in the Harry Potter universe; “Silence,” based on Shusaku Endo’s classic novel; “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children,” based on the book by Ransom Riggs; and “Doctor Strange,” based on the popular comics franchise.
