SHANGHAI, China—Excitement ran high as Converse launched its brand new line of weather-resistant sneakers, aptly called “Counter Climate,” last Aug. 11. The collection features water-resistant versions of classic Converse styles, and Inquirer To Be You was there to witness this most anticipated moment.
The launch began with an impressive Asian-themed banquet at swanky Lost Heaven restaurant. Guests were then whisked off to the ultra-trendy Waterhouse, where the event proper—Wetropolis: Counter Climate—kicked off. The warehouse-styled hotel with a stylishly gritty water-themed set proved the perfect venue to showcase the vibrant new collection of Converse sneakers, as well as apparel (rain jackets, backpacks and ponchos, among others) to match the climate-resistant footwear.
The event culminated at the hotel’s rooftop where Cameron Lindley, Converse senior marketing brand communications manager for Asia-Pacific, talked about the new collection before introducing a performance by South Korean indie musician Oh Hyuk. A resident of Shanghai, the singer also fronts the Asian campaign of the Counter Climate collection.
Updates
The new Converse Counter Climate collection features updates on Converse catalogue staples like the Chuck Taylor II and the Jack Purcell. Both are made with Shield Canvas, designed to stand up to the wear-and-tear of constant climate changes. The new designs feature the Lunarlon sockliner, a nonslip padded tongue and micro-suede lining combined with other water-resistant materials.
Other design updates include the removal of medial eyelets to make the footwear ready for rainy adventures, and the addition of reflective heel webbing and barrel laces for increased visibility in low light environments.
Don’t let the downpour dampen your style: The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II Shield Canvas is now available locally in black and white at Converse stores nationwide for only P4,550.
