Designer turns concert photos into garment print

INQUIRER Lifestyle’s To Be You regularly features up-and-coming talents in fashion.
Meet two young designers from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde who participated in Lifestyle’s Face-Off last November. The event was organized to showcase the skills and creativity of design students from four fashion schools.

Prints are the focal point of Puyat’s creation. “I like to think my prints are what make me stand out,” she says.
For this collection, Puyat’s prints came from photos of different concerts she attended. Using Photoshop, she layered her images, employing varying black, white and gray scale techniques and layer transparencies.
When it comes to silhouettes, she prefers classics and veers away from anything “too detailed” or “avant-garde.”

Kristina Dimaano

‘INABEL’ fabric from Ilocos was used for this men’s wear top.

Dimaano has always been into using local fabrics and materials like inabel, a handwoven textile from the Ilocos region, and jusi, a fine transparent fabric woven from silk and piña.
At the time she was preparing for the show, Bonifacio Day was just around the corner so she opted to infuse red in her garment to symbolize “struggle for freedom.”

“Even though I use local fabrics, I always make sure I put my own personal spin to produce a look that is more modern and casual,” she says.
