There’s no stopping matcha mania in the Philippines, and Newport Mall is set to launch the country’s first ever matcha-themed food festival. Matcha is one of the healthiest forms of green tea that dissolves entire tea leaves to maximize flavor and health components.
Matcha originated in Japan as a powdered type of green tea and its popularity has since risen in countries around the world, thanks to its complex flavors and detoxifying health benefits.
“Matcha is naturally high in anti-oxidants and is often considered a miracle-elixir that improves a wide array of health conditions that would benefit Filipinos” says Tefel Pesigan Valentino, SAVP of Marketing and Business Development of Megaworld.
With an ever growing fan base, matcha has also been used in other recipes from sweet desserts to savory rice meals. To meet the Filipino’s matcha cravings and to further share its health benefits in the Philippines, Newport Mall is setting the stage for matcha’s local takeover through a one of a kind festival.
With matcha art installations, matcha-infused concoctions, and a specialty market, this health sensation is taking the spotlight in a month-long matcha-love affair.
Until September 30, guests will have a chance to try limited edition matcha-creations from participating establishments in Newport Mall and Resorts World Manila.
Bulgogi Brothers will offer up the Matcha Pangtoa Ice Cream, Café Creole will be serving the Swamp Shake, Crepes and Cream is ready to deliver special green tea flavored versions of their Wild Strawberry crepes and Peaches and Creme, and CBTL will bring out their signature Matcha Green Tea Ice Blended and Matcha Green Tea Latte.
Meanwhile Serenitea will create three custom green tea blends Uji Pyramid Slush, Hazelnut Matcha Slush, and the Matcha Latte, while UCC Café will come out with a selection of Matcha desserts and drinks, namely the Green Tea Sansrival, Green Tea Mousse Cheesecake, Japanese Green Tea Brick Toast, the Matcha Parfait and the Hokkaido Green Tea Milkshake.
TWG Tea will come out with three Matcha creations called the Seared Matcha Salmon, the Matcha Nara and the Matcha Macaron.
Ichiba Japanese Market will prepare their Matcha Soft Serve, Johnny Kahuku will sample the Guaca Matcha Sansrival, and finally Mr. Kurosawa will delight Oreo lovers with the Oreo Crusted Kyoto Cheesecake.
For a visual treat, guests will marvel at the “Matcha Art Exhibit” that will put these matcha-masterpieces on display on the ground floor of Newport Mall.
For matcha lovers who want to take home local and imported green tea merchandise, a “Matcha Market” will offer matcha-flavored confections, treats, and other products available for purchase also on the 2nd Floor, The Plaza, Newport Mall.
