Shopping and charity–because it’s my birthday month

September is traditionally the start of the holidays in the Philippines, with Christmas songs being played relentlessly in malls and on the radio.

I think it’s quite delightful that we Filipinos celebrate the holidays for such a long period of time! There are a lot of reasons to celebrate the coming of September, and one of them is my birthday.

Special sale

This year, I’m celebrating my birthday by putting two of my favorite activities together: shopping and charity. Crate & Barrel celebrates my birthday with a special sale for the benefit of Assumption High School Batch ’81 Foundation.

When you shop at Crate & Barrel SM Aura store on Sept. 7, 3-10 p.m., you get 20 percent off on all regular priced items! They are also taking off 50 percent on selected armoires.

Shop to Give promises to be a real fun shopping event. It’s the best time to do your holiday shopping and give to charity!

Crate & Barrel also recently showcased its fall-winter 2016 collection with an intimate brunch at its SM Aura store. The tablescape was beautifully organic, as well as perfect for photos. It was a lovely mix of hydrangeas, eucalyptus, lavender and ivy, paired with the new Marin dinnerware, placed atop an Artesia placemat and Makena napkins, all from the FW 2016 collection.

Blue and white are strong and highlighted hues for this season, redolent of a serene cloud-dusted sky and Mediterranean shores paired with pure and warm white.

50 years, 5 Loves

Meanwhile, Miladay celebrated its golden anniversary recently at Revel in Bonifacio Global City. The trusted fine jewelry brand—helmed by the Dayrit siblings Michelle Soliven, Yvonne Romualdez, Jaqui Boncan, Mark Dayrit and Christine Dayrit—treated their guests to a magical night featuring an unforgettable fashion show that captivated the audience.

The amazing jewel collection on display was worn by the most beautiful young ladies; it was followed by a glittering auction that touched many giving hearts.

In gratitude for Miladay’s five successful decades, the family chose to celebrate by hosting a unique auction show in order to give back to their five Loves. The auction—with Freddie Santos, a long-time family friend of the Dayrits, as auctioneer—had five beautiful jewelry items up for grabs to support the 5 Loves of Miladay, or the five organizations the brand has been supporting all these years.

These are Verbum Dei, a missionary order dedicated to prayer and the Word of God, helping people fall in love with God over and over again; the Healing Servants Foundation, an organization that provides quality education to 365 poor or underprivileged yet deserving students of the Divine Healer Academy in Sorsogon; the Assumption Mission, a community of sisters and lay partners that aims to provide transformative education and to spread God’s love; Carewell, a foundation that supports, educates and gives hope to cancer patients and their families; and Miladay Foundation, whose current project is to provide homes for the Yolanda survivors in Tacloban.

The five winning bidders went home joyfully with their respective jewels, while all the proceeds went to Miladay’s 5 Loves.

Second branch

Celebrating life and blessings will always evoke warm beautiful emotions. Speaking of celebrations, Kiyosa Total Japanese Beauty has something to celebrate, too, with the opening of its second branch at the S Maison of the Conrad hotel.

At the branch, you can experience the same high-quality and full Japanese service you have experienced in Kiyosa’s Bonifacio Global City branch, with more services being offered such as hair treatments and color.
