We all need work-life balance

These days, when technology makes it possible for workers to be accessible around the clock, work-life balance seems to be a difficult thing to achieve. The stress from the never-ending workday can be strenuous on any relationship, not to mention one’s health and overall happiness.

Work-life balance means different things to different folks, but the basic principles involve time management, healthy living and a lot of planning. Feeling great starts with a healthy lifestyle, and the newest clinic of the doctor tandem of Z and Aivee Teo is the perfect place to start.

The A-Institute officially opened it doors at the 3/F Burgos Park Building, Forbestown Road, BGC. Loyal “Aivee Leaguers” came to witness the unveiling of yet another milestone in the Aivee Group of Companies. Hosted by top broadcast journalist and loyal patient Karen Davila, the event included a star-studded mix of celebrities and personalities like Sen. Grace Poe, Megaworld vice president  Kevin Tan, Lino Cayetano, elegant Tootsy Angara and former Miss World Megan Young.

Producer Mike Carandang created a five-minute video of The Aivee Group, focused on the work dynamics of the husband-and-wife team. Indeed, Z and Aivee have come a long way from their first Aivee Clinic. The couple surprised their guests by raffling off two Singapore Airlines Business Class tickets and two Cathay Pacific Business Class tickets, won by Raul Francisco and Helen Ong.

Guests then enjoyed exquisite and free-flowing champagne, and the food served by Asia’s best chef, Margarita Fores, made the palate tingle with delight. As always, the delectable dessert spread overflowing with Heny Sison’s masterpieces was a firm favorite with everyone.

The A-Institute aims to provide an all-encompassing, holistic approach to beauty, wellness and healthy living. The Institute’s 1,200 sqm of space covers five different aspects in our lives, including a Hair Lab, a Slimming Lab for non-invasive body contouring, an Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Lab equipped with the latest tech, a Snoring Lab and lastly, an Orthosports Lab focused on athletes.

In between procedures, there is the Aivee Café, with offerings curated by an in-house chef and certified nutritionist.

Luxe pairing for a luxe mag

It was a most auspicious event as Manila’s leading lifestyle engagers graced the launch of Metro Society’s Luxury Issue. The event had a cool luxe pairing, premium spirits and gourmet French cuisine complemented by the fab music of Bea Tantoco.

The elegant tasting menu was prepared by chef Jonas Ng and French cuisine exponent Le Jardin. Sommelier Gail Sotelo selected the spirits to pair with the food. The highlight was Remy Martin VSOP, served either neat or on the rocks, along with a traditional French boudin or blood sausage. That’s something we don’t see too often in events.

Remy Martin is the quintessential cognac, representing almost 300 years of French wine growing and cognac making know-how. It is a favorite in France, the original country of cognac. The House of Remy Martin offers a cognac of unique aromatic intensity. It was a perfect salute to a perfect evening of luxe spirit and gastronomic delights.

Athletes’ time

Exercise is an effective stress reducer. It pumps feel-good endorphins through our bodies. It helps lift any mood and puts one in a meditative state.

I still get to join our Girls Run for Breakfast weekly running group. The weekly exercise puts us all in a good mood, and we get to celebrate the athletic feats of our more amazing members.

Coach Ani de Leon-Brown was part of the recently concluded Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship held at Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa in Cebu City. The event has morphed, evolving from one of many Ironman events into the regional championship race. It was the first time the championship was held outside Australia and New Zealand.

Timex, the world-renowned official timekeeper for Ironman, commemorated their 30-year partnership at the event. Several Timex triathletes joined the celebration, bringing extra fun and excitement to the games.

Timex athlete Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan of Team Pangilinan shared that they have partnered with Timex for eight years, and it has been an annual family bonding event that they have grown to cherish. I also dearly remember when my hubby Dennis, his brother Robin and I used to race as Timex Team Valdes.

Coach Ani has also been with Timex for more than a decade. Her personal goal was to use the race as part of her road back to racing fitness, as it was only nine months after she gave birth. Thankfully, she was able to do that and get a podium finish as well.

After three decades of partnership with Ironman, Timex continues to shine. Their innovative and functional line of Timex Ironman watches are used by all the top athletes in the country and worldwide. As part of their 30th anniversary celebrations, Timex is giving a 30 percent discount on its sport watches starting Sept. 6. Check it out at all Timex outlets.

As part of my health regimen, I’m also happy to note that I am the new ambassador of Usana, the food and vitamin supplement for active individuals. Dennis and I been using these health supplements for decades and they truly keep us young.

In closing, I’d like to wish my mom, Marixi Prieto, the happiest birthday ever. She remains in the pink of health, and has always been my idol in maintaining work-life balance as she demonstrated in her decades of running her businesses and family so successfully. Have the best of birthdays, Mom!
