OFF-COURT, the De La Salle University (DLSU) Animo Squad and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Yellow Jackets are known to be good friends.

In the summer, they engage in good-natured competition as members of a school band basketball tournament.

Come University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season, they usually exchange courtesy cheers after a game, and one halftime in their double round robin match-up is spent together.

When the Animo Squad and Yellow Jackets perform at the same time, the hashtag #DLSUST goes trending.

Sept. 14, 2016, however, was another story. DLSU was up by 10 at the half, which meant the Animo Squad would perform before the Yellow Jackets.

The DLSU squad delivered their usual routine. But their halftime performance took a little longer than usual, eating up the allotted time for the Animo Squad and the Yellow Jackets.
Official statement
What the Animo Squad and many didn’t know was that UST’s halftime performance was supposed to be a send-off for the school’s drumline, composed of members of the Conservatory of Music and the Yellow Jackets, who were en route to a competition in Indonesia.

The DLSU Animo Squad has since released an official statement to the drumline and UST community, stating they were unaware of the plans for a send-off performance.

They also apologized for taking up UST’s allotted performance time. The UST Yellow Jackets have yet to issue a response.

How will this incident affect the relationship between the two squads? Will they be able to put this behind them? Will we see a joint halftime show the next time these two teams come together?

Only time will tell.
