The best way to a city’s heart, perhaps, is through its stomach.
For the third consecutive year, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) collaborated with lifestyle and travel channel TLC for “A Taste of Hong Kong” series, which aims to dig deeper into one of the world’s richest and most unique food cultures.
In his speech at Shangri-La at The Fort, HKTB regional director Simon Wong said dining in the Asian megacity should be seen as “an act of more than just filling up the stomach and satisfying our taste buds.”
“It is indeed an exercise for everyone to soak in and appreciate deeper the cultures of Hong Kong and what the city can offer both from a local and an international perspective… Hong Kong is a place constantly filled with excitement because of the city’s ever changing dynamics,” Wong said during the launch.
Noting that many Filipinos choose Hong Kong as their first overseas destination, Wong said the Philippines brought in the largest volume of tourists from Southeast Asia to the autonomous territory and former British colony, welcoming over 645,000 Filipino visitors last year.
The series’ third edition will feature the return of TLC host and globetrotter Ian Wright with local chef Christian Yang, as they explore high-end and street eats alike, ranging from “the exotic to tasteful avant-garde and Michelin-starred bites.”
Yang, who has trained in Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe before settling back in Hong Kong, will use his expertise in European culinary “to convey the iconic flavors of Hong Kong to the world’s foodie population.”
“I must thank both Ian and Christian, the excellent hosts of the show, for bringing A Taste of Hong Kong to life with such vivid and authentic interactions. I loved the different themes in each episode and I have decided that I will organize my friends and myself to follow Ian’s itineraries and try out all the places they visit in my next trip back to Hong Kong,” Wong added.
“A Taste of Hong Kong 3” premieres on Friday, Sept. 30, 6:40 p.m. on TLC. JE
