UST confab to assess state of literary arts in U-Belt

TO CELEBRATE the annual Taboan Literary Festival of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the University of Santo Tomas Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies (UST CCWLS) will be hosting “The Literary Muse in Manila,” on Oct. 5, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex Auditorium, UST campus, España, Manila

Conference is a one-day affair that aims to gather updates on the status of literature and creative writing—in short, of the literary culture—in different universities in the city of Manila. It is to be hoped that the conference will stimulate a strong literary culture in all schools and universities in the city.

UST CCWLS is hosting the forum in cooperation with the NCCA’s National Committee on the Literary Arts (NCLA) headed by Christine Godinez Ortega.

To take part in the forum is acclaimed fictionist Jun Cruz Reyes of Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Shirley Lua of De la Salle University, Ferdinand Jarin of Philippine Normal University, Diego Abad of Far Eastern University and Ralph Galan of UST.

They will share and discuss most effective practices regarding the setting up and administration of a creative writing center, literature/creative writing program/s and degree/s, academic press/publishing house, literary journals and other publications, literary section/folio of campus newspapers and magazines.

Proceedings of the conference will be submitted both to the NCCA and the Commission for Higher Education.
