Where to go for hair tattoos, dreadlocks and cornrows | Lifestyle.INQ

Punk hair or the salons that specialize in them aren’t easy to come by. You’d be forgiven for thinking they’d be found near a row of tattoo parlors, skate shops and biker bars.

Yet one Friday afternoon I found my way to Eastwood City, to check out this Urban Hip Salon called Aztá. The place was somewhere in the midst of the IT hub and commercial center with big retail names, chic coffee shops and trendy galleries catering to the young urban market.

Occupying the second floor of the Citywalk 2 shopping building, the salon blends in seemingly, a perfect venue for its hip yet cozy interiors as well as its niche services.

Aztá is a full-service salon. It has become known for its youthful ’dos inspired by the latest cuts here and abroad. The easy-going vibe is comforting the moment you enter, and the enthusiastic, skilled and personable hair-care experts will have you looking and feeling your hippest.

Services

Aztá is run like a collective; space is shared among seasoned and junior stylists, many of whom have very youthful and free-spirited individuals.

The variety of expertise enables Aztá to offer a wide-range of cuts—from wash-and-wear styles to edgier coifs.

Apart from the basic haircutting, styling, treatment, coloring and nail services , Aztá also offers special services such as dreadlocks (P4,000-5,000); braids (P300-500); cornrows (P600 above); and various hair-art styles, such as hair tattoos.

Of course, like many kikay women, hearing the word tattoos makes me cringe. Keep in mind I’m usually gung-ho about beauty trends, even the really bad ones, but a tattoo seems so permanent.

Thankfully, the term “hair tattoos,” is not as bad as it sounds, or as enduring as a real tattoo. Hair designers have taken the art of tattooing to a new level by shaving designs into men and women’s hair. In Aztá, you can bring in any design for tattooing and only pay a price of P500.

For the more kikay clientele, Aztá also offers other specialized services such as eyelash extensions and eyelash perming for P1,000 and P500 respectively .

Best of all, Aztá has a three-day Service Assurance Policy that will allow customers to go back to the salon for a free retouch if they are unhappy with the quality of the service.

Over all, the services are reasonably priced, giving customers the best value for their money.

Aztá is on the second floor of Eastwood Citywalk ,2 East Cyberpark, Bagumbayan, Quezon City. Call 6876527. Salon hours is 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Sunday.

At the recent launch of the Tigi Bed Head Urban Antidotes, people were asked to confess their deep dark hair sins and test the new range of urban antidotes.

Re-energize is made for normal hair that just needs a daily pick-me-up. Recovery, from the name itself, is for dry, damaged tresses that needs major hydration. Finally, Resurrection, is perfect for weak, brittle hair that needs an intervention.

So whether it’s time for a boost of moisture or a straight up overhaul, there is a Bed Head Urban Antidote prescribed for your hair. The shampoos and conditioners are sold for P1,930 each.
