Ever since I could remember, there would always be a pen and paper in my hand. I would draw all day. I stayed inside the house and drew to my heart’s content, rather than playing outside with other kids. I would draw anything, from landscapes to clothes, and enjoy every minute of being alone—watching TV, with art materials and a bowl of cereal.
What can you say about your art?
I draw almost anything and everything that pops into my head. Portraits of random people, still lifes, comics, animé, you name it! But most of my illustrations are fashionably inclined. I really don’t have a definite artistic style when I illustrate, since it all depends on my mood. I see my work as the bits and pieces of the things that go on in my head, put on paper.
What message are you trying to convey with your art?
It all depends on my mood and my designs, since most of my drawings are more on fashion—I make it a point to channel the mood of the dress into the whole composition of the illustration. Creating art that speaks for itself isn’t as easy as everyone thinks. It takes a lot of creativity, imagination and hard work to make an artwork stand out.
Are you planning to pursue this line of work in the future?
Illustration has been my biggest passion, and I love every minute of doing it. If given an opportunity to work as a fashion illustrator-artist, I would most likely go for it! But it has also been my dream to become an art director or creative director in a fashion magazine. Fashion and art both play a huge part in my life, and I would really want to spend every day of my life doing the things I love. Isn’t that what living is about?
Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?
Practice definitely makes perfect. When you are still starting at drawing, you really have to work on it every single day. You’ll be surprised to find your work getting better and better each time you draw. Through time (and after a lot of paper) you’ll find what your artistic style is, as well as the kind of art you’re into. It’s all about finding what you are really good at, and perfecting it from there. Don’t forget to dream; it helps.
