León Gallery’s will be holding its second online auction under its León Exchange Online on Oct. 22.
Gallery director Jaime Ponce de León said the sale is different from León’s regular auctions “in that everything is sold online and no physical auction in the room will take place.”
“We will have numerous small scale but high quality pieces to be sold,” Ponce de León added.
“Among the pieces are some early works by Gus Albor, Onib Olmedo and Romulo Olazo from the Nikki Coseteng Collection, an important tile mosaic of the Crucifixion by Vicente Manansala, from the Nap and Lady Rama Collection, important paper works by Jigger Cruz, Elmer Borlongan, Rodel Tapaya, and other contemporary masters.”
Among the modern pieces are works by National Artists Federico Aguilar-Alcuaz, Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera, Cesar Legaspi, Jose Joya and H.R. Ocampo.
Included in the sale are Angelito Antonio’s 1975 oil-on-cavas “Mother and Child”; Danilo Dalena’s 1983 pencil-on-paper “Nude”; Borlongan’s 1999 pastel-on-paper “Kalbo”; Romulo Galicano’s 1976 pastel-on-paper “Solitude (Nude)”; and Tapaya’s 2015 oil on paper “Ice Cream Man.”
Aside from the art pieces mentioned, there will also be furniture from the 19th century and furniture made by Ben Hughes in the 1990’s. Chinese furniture will also be auctioned off as well as a chair made by Kenneth Cobonpue for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit last November. —CONTRIBUTED
