What do Chelsea Clinton, Ivanka Trump, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, Victoria Beckham, Isabelle Daza and Toni Gonzaga have in common?
All these celebrities were Vera Wang brides. Even the most famous Kardashian, Mrs. Kanye West, wore not one but three Vera Wang dresses, to her wedding to husband No. 2 Kris Humphries.
Filipino brides who dream of wearing a gown by the American designer will no longer have to travel to Hong Kong or elsewhere to get their dream wedding dress, when Vera Wang opens at 8 Rockwell in Makati City on Nov. 11.
The Rockwell boutique will also carry Wang’s evening wear.
The 170-sq m boutique, which is next door to Balenciaga and Lanvin, aims to provide its Manila clients the signature elegance and sophistication of a Vera Wang salon experience—the better to engage the bride and her party.
According to the brand, the Manila store has a contemporary design, with graphite concrete floors, charcoal gray walls, etched glass doors and blackened steel elements.
Wang’s bridal style is feminine and romantic, typically with a twist of timeless, classic styles that appeal to many women. Her evening wear is also favored by red-carpet celebrities.
Wang is a former Vogue editor who worked at Ralph Lauren before launching her own eponymous bridal line in 1990. She has since expanded her brand into a full lifestyle line, with jewelry, footwear, fragrance, eyewear and homeware. She won the Council of Fashion Designers of America Womenswear Designer of the Year award in 2005.
Born to Chinese-American parents in New York City, Wang studied art history, and was educated at the University of Paris and Sarah Lawrence College in New York. As a child she trained as a figure skater. She reportedly shifted her interest to fashion when she failed to make it to the US Olympics team.
