This 2016, Avon, the global company for women, celebrates 130 years with a heightened commitment to fight breast cancer. Men and women of all ages stepped out to join Avon Philippines on their mission to raise 130 Million Steps at the Grand Download Day last Oct. 9 at Liwasang Ullalim at CCP Complex.
The event celebrates the launch of the Avon 130 Million Steps app which enables participants to track their steps, and be part of the worthy cause. Avon Philippines general manager Emie Aguilar-Nierves and celebrity ambassador Jennylyn Mercado led the ceremonial app downloading together with the participants.
“We are proud to be a company that fights wrinkles with one hand and fights breast cancer with the other,” said Aguilar-Nierves. “Here in the Philippines, we are so excited for people to use our mobile app which makes the crusade bigger and more personal than ever before.
Avon Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer ambassadors and Kapuso stars Mercado and Rocco Nacino are also pledging their daily steps to the cause. Mercado said, “This is a fight that I will never get tired of fighting. I am very fortunate to be able to empower my fellow Filipinas through Avon.”
Nacino’s heart for the cause stems from his admiration for his mother, Linda Nacino, who is a breast cancer survivor. “My mother is my greatest inspiration, and to share this fight with her as well as everyone else would be such an honor and joy.”
Celebrity coaches Jim and Toni Saret joined the event as well, and were sent off on the nationwide Walk of Awareness. As they trek through the Philippines, they will be using the Avon Pedometer App and documenting their journey.
Make your steps count by downloading the app, walking for a purpose, and sharing your steps on Facebook using the #130MillionSteps. Visit www.avon.ph to learn about the Avon fund-raising products available for purchase and how to make a direct donation to the Philippine Cancer Society.
The funds raised will go to the maintenance of the PGH Breast Care Center, which serves thousands of indigent Filipino women.
