Inquirer Lifestyle’s To Be You regularly features up-and-coming talents in fashion. Meet three from De La Salle College of Saint Benilde’s Fashion Design class, who stood out at the recent “Sinulid: The Threads of Design” exhibit and graduation fashion show.

CHRISTINE SION

Sion’s collection was inspired by a broken mirror.

“My creation focused on the patterns of broken glass. It represents the strength and beauty of a woman,” says the designer, whose aesthetic is a mix of edgy and elegance.

Using the sheath silhouette to emphasize the feminine form, Sion applied techniques like sublimation and vinyl print on her fabric.

ALAIN MONTALBO

Montalbo’s duster coat with custom print burnt flower petals can be paired with other pieces from his collection, which includes linen shirts, trousers and dresses with distressed details like an exposed shoulder or raw hemlines.

The young designer describes his style as either cluttered or clean-looking. “I can’t ever design something that is entirely tailored and sharp,” he says, “but at the same time my creations are not always slouchy and carefree.”

NICIA BOBADILLA

Bobadilla is heavily influenced by street fashion. She also tackles social issues through her designs. Experimenting with fabrics is a key aspect to her design aesthetic.
