UST creative writing center to hold 5th Authors Series

The UST Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies (UST CCWLS), in cooperation with the UST Publishing House (UST PH) and Visprint Publishing Inc., will be holding an informal conversation and book launch titled “Langit at Lait: Catholic Literary Criticism and Social Critique” on Nov. 18, 3-5 p.m., Friday, at the Tanghalang Teresita Quirino, Benavides Bldg., University of Santo Tomas, Manila.

The event will feature two of the Center’s resident fellows and their latest books of poetry: Ma. Ailil B. Alvarez’s “Slivers of the Sky: Catholic Literary Readings and Other Essays” (UST PH, 2016) and John Jack G. Wigley’s “Lait Chronicles” (Visprint, 2016).

The UST Authors Series is designed to showcase new works by the center’s resident fellows and associates. Its purpose is to introduce UST students to writers in the faculty who could serve as their writing mentors or models, and to contribute toward the flourishing of the reading culture in the university.

Alvarez is the deputy director of the UST PH. She writes literary criticism and theory that is specially focused on Catholic spirituality and women’s studies.

Wigley is the director of the UST PH. He has previously published two memoirs: “Home of the Ashfall” ( 2014), and “Falling into the Manhole” (2012), winner of the Gawad San Alberto Magno (Best Book) of the 15th Dangal ng UST Awards, and a finalist of the 13th Madrigal-Gonzalez Best First Book Award.

UST CCWLS resident fellow and best-selling author Josélito Delos Reyes serves as overall coordinator of the event.

The event is open to creative writers, literary enthusiasts and the general public.
