Woman sues fashion brand for ‘dead rat sewn in dress’

A woman from Manhattan, New York, is suing a clothing company after she bought a dress with a dead rodent sewn in it.

Twenty-four-year-old Cailey Fiesel claimed that she purchased the black dress from a Zara outlet in Connecticut in July for $40 (P1,970), but only noticed the disturbingly pungent odor” when she wore it a few weeks later.

In a report by New York Post, the putrid secret was revealed when the dress stank and she felt a sharp paw thrust her thigh.

“I saw the little leg that was coming out of the seam that I had touched, which was really horrifying,” Fiesel told the news site. “I froze—I was paralyzed with fear.”

Because of the incident, Fiesel said she suffered from emotional trauma and a visible rash caused by the rodent.

Fiesel’s lawyer, Adam Deutsch, said, “They (Zara) are known for taking a design that is popular and getting it on shelves very quickly, that is because they manufacture all their own material.”

“The quickness in which they get things from design to shelf probably leads to their lack of controls,” he added.

Deutsch said the fashion retailer had turned down offers to settle instead of being sued.
