Japan never seem to run out of odd and interesting things—from weird TV shows to weird songs (PPAP). This time around we are treated to several unusual food choices from a popular sushi restaurant.

Well-known conveyor belt restaurant chain Sukiya decided to diversify its menu with Mackerel Burgers and Sushi dogs, reports RocketNews24.

The Mackerel Burger looks like any other hamburger except for the raw slice of mackerel in between the buns. Underneath the mackerel is the usual vinegar-flavored rice that is a pre-requisite for sushi dishes. It also has a green shiso leaf and a dab of creamy mayo.

The Sushi Dog, on the other hand, has a bit more of a comical appearance. It’s basically a sausage rolled rice, then rolled in seaweed. However, the reporter noted that the seaweed was still inside a plastic wrapper when it was served which was unbecoming of a famous restaurant chain. Fortunately, the dish tasted good enough that he felt it was fine to forgo making a complaint.

These two sushi dishes are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how creative the Japanese have gone to create unusual food items. The restaurant chain previously made news serving bacon and omelette-topped sushi pieces.

Either way, Sukiya’s diversifying menu is slowly pushing it to the realm of family restaurants to which the reporter quipped that they should consider changing their name to “Famiro.” Alfred Bayle
