Sometimes, people need to step back into nature to rediscover their humanity.
Contemporary painter Herbert Pajarito examines the appeal of nature from the viewpoint of his imagination in his latest exhibition at Galerie Francesca in SM Megamall, which opens on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 6:30 p.m. “Imaginature,” Pajarito’s second one-man exhibition, sees eleven new works utilizing Pajarito’s unique style of layering lines to create organic, free-flowing works that looks at nature from the perspective of Pajarito’s imagination.
A digital fine arts graduate from Adventist University of the Philippines, Pajarito has won the Grand Prize at the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE 2013), and First Prize at the 66th Art Association of the Philippines Annual Awards (2013). He was also a finalist at the 2012 Philip Morris Philippine Art Awards, and recently garnered an honorable mention nod at the 2015 GSIS Painting Competition.
Pajarito is known for art that is composed of layers of lines, stretching out from the canvas like tree branches. His paintings can sometimes have as many as ten layers of lines, which he first sketches out with a pen before applying acrylic. But for “Imaginature,” Pajarito wanted to use this technique for a theme close to his heart.
“I feel that my art should reflect my desire to refresh. Whenever I go to the city, I feel stressed. But when I return home [to Cavite], it’s a wonderful relief. I wished to capture that in my paintings. So my colors are brighter. The technique is the same, but the process is a lot different.”
