Looks like soap and water just doesn’t cut it anymore. If you want to clean your sensitive skin but are wary of overstripping it, products containing micellar water might be for you.

These contain clever cleansing bubbles that help lift away makeup and impurities, unclogging pores while instantly boosting skin hydration by 90 percent. One of the recent entrants in the local market is Simple Skincare from the UK.

Last year, the brand expanded its skincare range (cleanser, moisturizer, eye makeup remover) to include two products with micellar water—Micellar Cleansing Water and Micellar Cleansing Wipes. The two additions quickly became favorites among the beauty community, with the cleansing water voted one of Glamour UK’s top 15 cleansers and also landing in Allure’s Best of Beauty 2015.

“The wipes are perfect for women-on-the-go because they are portable and spill-proof. You can just stick them in your purse,” said Bo Rodriguez, Unilever’s brand manager for Simple. “With the Micellar Cleansing Water, there’s no need to rinse. You simply soak a cotton pad and gently swipe it over your face, and you’re done.”

Products with micellar water have long been popular with makeup artists. “I was already using micellar water when I was studying in France in the ’90s,” said makeup artist Christine Duque. “It’s particularly useful when you’re doing the makeup for shows and you need to quickly cleanse and prep the models’ faces. It’s fast and efficient.”

She said that while using a cleansing oil also does the trick, it can be time-consuming and often requires a second cleansing with a creamy facial cleanser to remove any remaining slickness.

Duque, added, however that you don’t have to ditch your regular cleanser. “Micellar water is an alternative.”

The Simple skincare range includes portable wipes for on-the-go cleansing.

The Simple Skincare range consisting of the five products mentioned is now available at department stores and Watsons branches.
