Do you adore dogs and live to cuddle cats? Or maybe you love exploring the zoo to observe exotic animal life? Animals are an interesting addition to the world, making it even more colorful.

We’ve listed some of the well-known destinations that feature animals as one of their main attractions. They are great places for animal lovers to observe or even interact with the fuzzier half of the earth’s population:

Koh Phi Phi, Thailand: Cats

This Thai destination will pull the heartstrings of cat lovers. Cats litter the streets, walking about freely and generally doing things cats do best: exploring; napping, eating and generally chilling. Shopkeepers and residents don’t mind either, sometimes giving a passing feline some food to snack on. Definitely not a place for somebody with kitty allergies though.

Zao Fox Village, Japan: Foxes

In Japanese culture, foxes are revered as messengers of the gods, clever monsters or even gods themselves. In a “village” close to the Shiroishi mountains, foxes roam freely and live their lives in the peculiar comforts of a man-made living area. Buildings dot the area along with temples and many more places of interest while you enjoy the fresh breeze of the mountains. You can also buy food to give to the foxes; but direct hand feeding is prohibited for your own good.

Oahu Waterfalls, New Zealand: Seal Pups

A walk along the Oahu stream leads to a relaxing and refreshing pool of water beneath a small waterfall. During the winter months, expect to see a number of seal pups making their way from the ocean. These shy guys playfully swim across the water–ripe for a photo op. Don’t make any loud noises or enter the water as the seals view this as a danger and will flee straight away.

Tarsier Sanctuary, Bohol: Tarsier

The tarsier is the animal most associated with this region of the archipelago. Due to the tarsier’s sensitive nature, sanctuaries are built to help preserve the species and make sure that their numbers do not dwindle continuously.  Walk along a forested path and let the guides direct you to the specific trees each tarsier inhabits so that you can take pictures or footage of the sleepy little creatures. Avoid loud noises, touching the tarsiers and activating flashes of any kind to avoid stressing them out.

Nara, Japan: Deer

Deer are they symbols of the city of Nara. You can visit a park dedicated entirely to these adorable creatures. Guests can check out around 1,200 deer residing in the park and buy “deer crackers,” which they can let the animals snack on. You’ll be amazed at the sheer number of deer walking around this mostly natural setting; but always be vigilant as well. The deer may be peaceful and used to humans given their habitat, but never provoke them or touch the young as they may take this as an attack and defend themselves.

There are more amazing and educational sanctuaries like these all over the world, with animals exclusive to their respective regions across the globe. Are there any amazing destinations you know that have exotic creatures? Make the trip today and feed your love for the animal kingdom through these travels.
