The seniors generation has reason to feel excited and step out to watch a concert featuring a pop idol of the 1950s: Pat Boone on Dec. 6 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The show, dubbed “A Merry Christmas with Pat Boone,” will apparently have a Yuletide theme. Expect to hear a good number of holiday songs Boone has recorded in his illustrious career: “White Christmas,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Silent Night,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Winter Wonderland,” “O Holy Night,” “First Noel,” “Silver Bells,” among others.

But press material from concert promoter Ovation Productions added that Boone will also sing some of his greatest hits, including “Love Letters in the Sand,” “Ain’t That a Shame,” “Friendly Persuasion,” “Bernardine,” “April Love,” “Speedy Gonzales,” “Deep Purple,” “Blueberry Hill,” “Fascination” and “Tennessee Waltz.”

Boone has been listed by Billboard as the second biggest charting artist of the late ’50s, behind only Elvis Presley but ahead of Ricky Nelson and The Platters.

He was also ranked at No. 9—behind The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney but ahead of Aretha Franklin and The Beach Boys—in the magazine’s listing of the Top 100 Top 40 Artists for 1955-1995.

Benefit show for Durias kin

It is said that Jay Durias, one of the country’s best and most talented musicians, has never turned down an invitation to participate in a benefit show.

One night, while he and his bandmates in South Border were on their way to one of those gigs, the guys agreed they themselves should put up one—for the benefit of Jay’s own brother, Dodon Durias, who is hearing-impaired and has been undergoing dialysis for the past four years and is a candidate for kidney transplant.

Thus, the benefit show “Hear Our Hearts” will be held on Dec. 15 at 19 East, featuring South Border with special guest Lani Misalucha.
