A Viu-tiful way to spend the weekend

You have to know this very good news: There’s now a fantastic view right on your couch where you can watch Korean dramas unfold. Princesses, princes, mysterious protagonists, sweet and charming female leads, unforgivable villains … name it, Viu has it.

Recently launched by PCCW Media Group, a Hong-Kong based telecommunications company, Viu is an Over The Top (OTT) and on-demand streaming site that offers every Korean-drama fanatic’s dream: an overwhelming number of high-quality dramas with subtitles you can binge-watch anytime, anywhere for free. Here’s a run-down of some of the top-rated shows in the app:

  1. “Descendants of the Sun”—C’mon, who can’t resist a story about a soldier and a doctor and the intense conflict of meeting half-way for love? Starring Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo, “Descendants of the Sun” is a tale of how Captain Yoo Shi-jin falls in love with Dr. Kang Mo-yeon as they face dangers of a war-torn country.

Watch out for this quote: “Regarding the kiss, what should I do? Should I apologize for that? Should I confess my feeling to you?”—Yoo Shi-jin

  1. “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo”—With a weightlifter for a father, Kim Bok-joo is a naturally gifted weightlifter with a goal-oriented personality. As she follows her father’s footsteps, in various strange ways, she bumps into Joon-hyung who is a swimmer. The two become friends and Bok-joo even helps him overcome his doubts and fears. (Awww!)

Now here’s the deal: Bok-joo also has a gymnast friend/roommate Si-ho, and she is Joon Hyung’s ex-girlfriend. (Gasp!)

  1. “Love in the Moonlight”—A story about a crown prince during the 19th-century and a beautiful woman disguising herself as a man to make a living, “Love in the Moonlight” is a drama that shows two people from different background and how far they can go for love.

Watch out for this scene: “You said you get angry when you see me.”- Hong Ra-on

“That is still true. I get angry when I see you but I cannot help it. When I could not see you, it drives me crazy. So stay by my side.” -Crown Prince Lee-young

Now, if you’re worrying about your unstable internet connection and other million things that can be hindrances to your planned binge-watching session, worry no more because you can download content and continue watching offline.
