After three rounds of competitions for children, youth and adult categories, the winners of Paskong Himig, Pasig City’s Yuletide vocal and choral competitions have been chosen.
Paskong Himig winners and the Pasig City Band will give a nine-day concert nightly from Dec. 12 to 20 at Plaza Rizal across the Immaculate Conception Cathedral at 7 p.m. The concert is open to the public.
The competition that is held every two years is the brainchild of former first lady of Pasig City Soledad C. Eusebio. Since then, Paskong Himig has evolved into an event eagerly awaited by residents.
For vocal solo, the winners for the children’s category: first prize, Melrick James L. Cejales (Pinagbuhatan); second prize, Chantel Marie C. Guinid (Ugong); and third prize, Angelique Keith O. Corpuz (Rosario).
For the youth category: first prize, Psalm Miranda (Pineda); second prize, Queen Stephanie M. Marzan (Santolan); and third prize, Rhea L. de los Santos (Pineda).
For adult category: first prize, Joachim Joseph S. Lim (Mangahan); second prize, Paulette T. Cambonero (Kalawaan); and third prize, Daria C. Rivera (Santolan).
In the choral category, the winners and their respective conductors for the elementary category: first prize, PCC Children’s Choir, Bert Edades; second prize, Pasig Elementary School Children’s Choir, Alvin Manuguid; and third prize, Lanie Casipe Learning Center Choir, Melchor Torres.
High School Category, first prize, PCC Youth Choir, Bert Edades; second prize, Sta. Lucia High School Choir, Enzo Dumo; and third prize, LICS Glee, Nestor Laural.
In the Barangay/Church-Adult Category: first prize, Himig Rizalia, Michael Yap; second prize, Pamantasan ng Lungsod Pasig Himig Chorale, Alvin Manuguid; and third prize, Music and Praise Chorale, Bert Edades.
Hon. Robert C. Eusebio, the incumbent mayor and executive chair of the event extolled the value of music that the tilt brings to its countless listeners. The “language of the soul,” music, he said, conveys sentiments of love and understanding, unity and peace, apart from providing merriment.
Former Mayor Hon. Maria Belen A. Eusebio, is the honorary chair of the competition with councilor Ferdinand A. Avis as vice chair. Noel T. Rivera heads the Secretariat, made up of several working committees that assist the Executive Committee.
The top three winners were awarded cash prizes and trophies while runners-up received consolation prizes.
