Hey, palangga, KidZania Manila has opened a new play-activity area dubbed the Marine Research (MR) Lab.
It’s sponsored by Century Tuna and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines.
MR Lab is the first among KidZania’s 24 facilities worldwide to offer a marine conservation experience to visitors. In the MR Lab, kids learn about marine ecosystems, sustainability, and the need to care for the earth’s seas through a mock underwater facility that houses models of marine ecosystems and research work stations.
Christopher Po, chair and president of Century Tuna’s parent company, Century Pacific Food, Inc., explained the relevance of MR Lab: “Conservation of our marine resources is a challenge we face every day. We hope this facility will help inspire our youngsters to take up marine research and conservation.”
Jose Palma, WWF president, said: “The Philippines is in the heart of the coral triangle—we are at the center of the world’s aquamarine biodiversity and the no. 1 producer of tuna in the world.”
Sen. Kiko Pangilinan pointed out “how the sea is very much a part of our lives, which is why marine conservation is of utmost concern.”
“The Marine Research Lab hopes to nurture future Philippine scientists who can lead in protecting our country’s waters and its marine life which are our most important treasures,” said KidZania Philippines governor Maricel Arenas.
Gracing the inaugural, dahlings, was Century Tuna’s baby-faced endorser, heartthrob James Reid, along with other celebrities who graced the opening together with Iza Calzado and Mark Nelson.
Mall-goers had a glimpse of fashion genius through the exhibit “Birth of a Legend,” a fabulous photographic exhibition at SM Aura Premier on the life and work of legendary French fashion designer Yves San Laurent (YSL).
Mounted by the Embassy of France, Alliance Française de Manille and SM, the international touring exhibit will be brought later to SM Megamall.
Gracing the opening were French Ambassador Thierry Mathou and Cecile Mathou and Alliance Française de Manille executive director Patrick Deyvant.
Members of the diplomatic corps, fashion designers and photographers, and representatives from top fashion schools were welcomed by SM senior marketing communications VP Millie Dizon and SM Aura Premier assistant VP Bernice Baculi.
The exhibit showcased 49 original photographs by renowned French photographer Pierre Boulat about the anxiety and exhilaration that went with the creative process when YSL was preparing his first collection in 1962.
YSL, the high-fashion and luxury brand, was founded by San Laurent in 1961. It is well known for its iconic and modern masterpieces such as tuxedos and suits for women. San Laurent also became the first living fashion designer to be honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with a solo exhibition in 1983.
Boulat is a renowned French photographer and journalist. He is one of the few photographers who had covered YSL since the designer’s debut at Dior.
Eat yummy food, lose weight
Healthy, delicious and easy-to-cook meals that help weight loss, took center stage when Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre kicked off its first Cohen Cook-Off Challenge, a competition to formulate recipes of appetizing food that make their partakers trim down rapidly and effectively.
Cohen clients who showcased their original recipes were Mary Ann “Dr. Ianne” Tangcangco, 40, a physician who has lost 35 lb on the program so far; Marian Remo, 30, a businesswoman who has lost 16 lb to date; and Carrie Luis, 26, a freelance assistant who has just started the program.
Remo won the cook-off challenge with her dish, Beef Stuffed Zucchini with Mango Salsa.
Welcoming guests were Cohen CEO Barbara Young and director Regina Chuavon.
“Our mantra is that food becomes your medicine,” said Chuavon. “The beauty of the Cohen Program is it is all-natural. You just have to eat natural food that you buy in the supermarket—what you normally eat.
“With or without exercise, just by simply following the food prescription with precise food quantities you are given based on your own blood chemistry, you will see rapid, healthy and safe weight loss because it is your hormones that are being corrected [by the program].”
The Cohen Cook-Off Challenge demonstrated that one can enjoy healthy, yummy and easy-to-prepare meals even on a weight-loss program.
