It was a blockbuster hit when Popcorn General Store (PGS) opened its doors to excited customers who flocked to Uptown Mall in Taguig City last Nov. 25 to witness the opening of the first-ever branch in Philippine soil .
The streetwear aficionados were rewarded for their patience as the first 20 customers received gift certificates and free shirts for everyone. PGS sells “urban lifetsyle” or “street style” fashion for men and women. It houses the most anticipated international brands which include Supreme, Wrung, Rip n Dip, CLSC, Publish, King Apparel, and Converse.
Of course, there were tubs of popcorn for everyone who wanted to get their hands on the latest collaborations and highly-coveted limited edition items made available in PGS.
Joe Wong, owner of Popcorn General Store, urges its customers to embrace the freedom of being real. He wants everyone who walks out of his store brimming with confidence and shining with their own unique style.
Aside from top-notch brands, PGS also sells small somethings like mobile phone cases, pillows, stuffed toys, but majority of the items is devoted to men’s apparel, caps and rubber shoes.
On expansion, Wong intends to slowly tread the waters as he intends to open two stores here next year. “Popcorn General Store will open another branch located at the UP Town Center in 2017. Soon we are looking to bring street wear at the forefront of major cities in Singapore and Dubai, it’s in the pipeline,” Wong said.
Wong commends the Youth’s strong recognition for style and sass here. “The Philippines has a lot of young people, which love the American style. What we have here are brands that are exclusive only in the Philippines. In some other countries, the brands are more Japanese,” he said.
Brands offered in PGS are tailor-fit to cater to the Filipino market because they are spread far and wide across the globe.
“Through Popcorn General Store, we create an engaging and fresh environment for our consumers that celebrate the diverse aspects of the streetwear scene in Manila. Our aim is to be a place that can showcase the depth of each brand we carry in our racks and present the very best to our target consumer because they deserve nothing less. Our aim is to provide a hub for people who lives and breathes the brands we carry,” Barny Chong, Wong’s Popcorn Philippine counterpart, said.
