Galerie Francesca presents Francis Nacion’s “Heaven on Earth” at Megamall Artspace, Jan. 17 to 28. Exhibition elaborates on the particular cosmology he has developed and expounded on in his earlier one-man shows where hidden spiritual realities coexist with ours.

With impressive size and extreme detail of patterned scraping overlaid with fine brushwork filling every available surface space, Nacion presents an elaborate and stunning collection of 24 full-length portraits of women and men from different countries and times coexisting in a heavenly garden full of trees and flowers. Most of the works are life-sized or nearly life-sized; and special attention is given to the clothing, furniture and contextual information which point to the subjects’ time and culture.

Some paintings conflate time by presenting these people together, such as in the diptych painting “Heaven on Earth” where ten women from different countries and periods are situated in an imaginary Eden overflowing with flowers.
