Lifestyle’s best-dressed list of Miss Universe candidates

As the 65th Miss Universe Pageant kicked off with the Governor’s Ball held last Monday at the SMX Convention Center at the MOA Arena grounds, 86 delegates were officially introduced, all glammed up and ready to show off their fighting form and, of course, their taste in fashion.

Each of the delegates was given a runway moment—gliding down the red carpet in the middle of the ballroom leading to the stage.

Some delegates opted for styles reflecting their cultures. Miss India wore an elegant sari, Miss Indonesia was in a batik gown, and Miss Kenya in eye-popping African prints.

Some wore designer evening wear. Miss US Virgin Islands was in Elie Saab; Miss Philippines Maxine Medina wore Rhett Eala.

Other candidates opted for the traditional beauty-queen silhouette—the body-hugging show-the-curves long dresses, like Miss France and Miss Australia.

Here are some of the looks that stood out that night.
