Chinese Zodiac art in Alabang 

“Zojax,” a series of 12 paintings by Christian Tamondong depicting the Chinese zodiac signs, rendered in his characteristic children’s art style, is on view at Galerie Roberto until Jan 24.

‘Quartet’ at Artologist

The Artologist Art Gallery presents “Quartet: Men of Many Talents, Artists of Many Colors,” featuring the works of Dr. José Duran, lawyer Ferdinand “Joy” Roxas, Cid Reyes and Boysie Villavicencio. Show opens on Jan. 28.

Duran is a practicing opthalmologist at University of Santo Tomas Hospital, where he also taught for the past 36 years at the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. Retiring in 2007, Duran, who also plays the piano and harmonica, has time now to indulge his love for golf and painting.

Roxas was previously vice chair and general manager of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. He was at one time chair of Philippine Racing Commission.

A former adman, Reyes received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Creative Guild of the Philippines. He is better known as an award-winning art critic, a prolific writer of art books, and author of choice by National Artists Arturo Luz, BenCab, J. Elizalde Navarro and Napoleon Abueva. Reyes was recipient of the Most Outstanding Kapampamgan in the Arts Award in 2015 from the Government of Pampanga.

Villavicencio was a fashion designer, a teacher, an equestrian, a garment manufacturer, a food columnist, a magazine publisher. He writes the over a decadelong column “Online” for Malaya. He became a president of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines, chair and president of the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra, and chair of Erehwon Foundation Inc.

Though coming from various fields of discipline, these four artists are bonded by their passion for the arts.

“Quartet” runs until Feb. 11.

Dali prints at Shang Makati

Hiraya Gallery presents “Salvador Dali,” featuring the master surrealist’s drypoint etchings in colors, at the Mezzanine of Makati Shangri-La Manila starting Jan. 31.

In “Le Bestiaire” series, Dali’s vaunted flair for fantasy and imaginative meanderings are at play, and with many of them featuring a menagerie of animals (deer, giraffe, camel, horse, elephant, wolf, birds and vulture), displaying human characteristics, not at all cartoonish, but drawn, freely sketched with a tremendous sense of energy and confidence.

Show also includes prints from Dali’s “Divine Comedy” series, based on Dante Alighieri’s epic work. Show runs until Feb. 10.
