Every November marks the fundraising ball of Club Bulakeño, a socio-civic club composed mostly of Manila based Bulakeños. Founded by engineer Gene and Lydia Reyes, and with the steadfast support of Ama ng Bulacan Ambassador Bienvenido Tantoco Sr, this has outlived other provincial associations. At the helm of the last bash were presidents  Jimmy Buhain and Milo Bondoc.

Each year, a theme is picked out by the presidents. Last year’s theme, the “Royal Ascot,” was a throwback to the days of Eliza Doolittle. Ladies were decked in black and white gowns and fancy hats. Men came in their tuxedoes, top hats and canes, giving the ballroom an English feel.

Serving as master of ceremonies was master emcee Johnny Litton, who captivated the audience with his usual wit and eloquence.

The program started with recognition of notable Bulakeños. This year’s awardees are lawyer Henry Villarica for public service and Milagros Imson for entrepreneurship.

This was followed by the introduction of this year’s muse, Nica Ponce-Quiazon, daughter of Dr. Orlando and GynGyn Ponce-Quiazon, and her escort Drei Buhain, grandson of this year’s male president. The muse was crowned by Nedy Tantoco of Rustan’s Corporation and Former Ambassador of Spain to the Philippines  Ignacio Sagaz.

Next, a parade featuring a bevy of elegantly dressed ladies in their costumes: distinguished socialites Rep. Linabelle Villarica, Eimee Cragun, Consul Helen Ong, Baby de Jesus, Baby Ortiz, JC Maloles, Vivian Yano, Shelley Lazaro, Jemellie Gonzales, Alana Montelibano, Manolyn Taylor, Buena Sarmiento.

Joel Cruz of Aficionado fame was the showstopper with his dramatic long-train cape.

Lastly, the guests were treated to several song and dance numbers from “My Fair Lady.”

Through the efforts of last years’ presidents and officers, the proceeds will sponsor many more bright students for tertiary education.
