Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere left the Philippines on Thursday, heading for New York to officially start her reign.
Mittenaere’s plane departed at 4 p.m. from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2. In New York she will have Miss Universe USA Deshauna Barber as her roommate for a few months.
As she walked out of the airport, the new Miss Universe left a message to Filipinos: “Thank you, I love you, and I will miss you all!”
Mittenaere was crowned by Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach last Jan. 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena. She is the 65th Miss Universe title holder and the second winner from France. Clarizel Abanilla/rga
